Karate Practice TeenagerParents have the same desires for their kids as anyone else: we want our kids to be good, decent, focused, disciplined, and respectful individuals.  Regular schools work on the academic side of things, but how do we get the rest?  A simple way: Martial Arts.  Just as they are beneficial for small children, they are even better for teenagers and pre-teens.

At USSD Mission Viejo West, we focus primarily on teaching self-defense.  Whether you like it or not, there are situations out there that can frighten your kids.  Bullying can come in physical or verbal ways, and our Martial Arts training addresses these concerns.  We teach our students how to deflect these situations, by having them do role play scenarios where they have to defend themselves in ways that are not harmful to anyone.  We teach them not only how to defend themselves, but also the techniques they need to be most effective.

Although self defense is our primary target, there are other reasons why the practice of Martial Arts is important for our teens.  Confidence is a big part.  We believe that Confidence comes from Competence: the more you know you can accomplish something, the more you believe you can accomplish anything else in life.  Martial Artists are known to be confident individuals due to their ability to focus on what is next in their training.

As much as these traits are beneficial to our teens, so is a good work out.  Teen obesity is quite a problem in our society, and it does not seem to be getting any better.  The more video games, television, and now, iPods and iPads are around, the less our teenagers have the necessity to move.

Martial Arts changes this by providing a structured environment in which they can develop their bodies and use every single muscle in cross-training exercises, teamwork-building activities, and classic Martial Arts that is estimated to burn up to 700 calories in an hour of practice.

Classes for Teens are divided into two kinds: Private and Group Lessons.  Private lessons are 30 minutes long, and we recommend you get one private lesson per week.  Group Lessons are 1 hour long and the classes for this age group are as follows:

What are the prices?

Prices vary depending on the number of times your teen comes to class and the length of the program.  The best way we can assess the price that will work for you is by having you try a free lesson.  This way, we can evaluate your teen, and figure out which combination of classes will work best for him or her.  The ultimate price will vary depending on that.
